Following the sale of the world-famous Swan Hunter shipyard on Tyneside to an Indian shipbuilding concern, Gillie & Blair shipping services were asked to source and charter geared / multi-purpose tonnage to ship five fill and complete cargoes from the River Tyne to Mumbai.

Typically cargo consisted of dismantled cranes (both fixed and mobile), dismantled fabrication buildings, steel fabrication equipment vehicles and containers, together with general cases, crates and associated miscellaneous loose items.

The total volume of cargo moved was approximately 35,000 cu.m, weighing some 7,500 tonnes.

Also provided were the services of a surveyor and cargo superintendent to control and oversee the marshalling, presentation to vessel, loading, stowing and lashing / securing operations. All cargo reached its destination safely and is currently being re-erected to build a new generation of vessels.
